Anasoft litera

Slovakia · Since 2006 · For books in Slovak

Awarded each year by the association ars_litera to the best book of original Slovak prose of any form (novels, story collections and other prose), including prose by Slovak citizens written in another language and published in Slovak translation, from the previous calendar year; the prize is named for the year it is given (Anasoft litera 2010 went to a book published in 2009). The jury named ten finalists until 2017; since 2018 it names a top ten and then a final five, which is the shortlist here.

Anasoft litera was founded in 2006 by Katarína Kucbelová and Marek Turňa and is organised by a civic association, with the software company Anasoft as its general partner from the start. Every work of Slovak prose published in the previous year is nominated automatically, and a new jury is appointed each year. From 2006 to 2017 the jury named a final ten, the finalists, and some months later chose the laureate; in 2008, finding too few strong books, it named only seven. Since 2018 a further round narrows the ten to a final five. A readers' prize is awarded alongside it, and the organisers also run the litera fest festival.
