Scraps of the stories of people who, despite or because of their differences, meet in close relationships within a shared life in Czechoslovakia in the second half of the twentieth century. We come to them through the memories of Ota, bohemian, doctor, lover and mother, and of her husband Andrej. The book is above all about motherhood and its ambivalence, the swing between closeness and estrangement of mother and child, and the way a woman's identity changes when she becomes a mother; it is also about memory and its fragments, death, loss and trauma, but also hope and vitality. The text is accompanied by works by the artist Eva Moflárová.
