White Point is a fishing town on the coast of Western Australia, newly rich from the lobster boom. Georgie Jutland, a former nurse at odds with her wealthy family, lives there with Jim Buckridge, a respected widower, and his two sons, who will never see her as a mother; her days are tedious and her nights are spent with vodka. At dawn one day she notices a figure on the shore: Luther Fox, a poacher and former musician scarred by the deaths in his family. Their affair offers both of them hope, but it also brings danger, as Jim, Georgie and Fox each try to escape the past and remake their lives against a vast and harsh landscape.
