In this city, beasts that can barely be told apart from humans share daily life with people. The narrator records their fortunes from a distance until she finds out that she is part beast herself. No longer a bystander, she becomes caught up with creatures who pass for human, and slowly learns the truth about where she comes from and about the people closest to her.
