The narrator fought at Pakrac and came back traumatised. Now he spends his days in front of the Đeram market on King Alexander Boulevard in Belgrade, among addicts, drunks, beggars, informers, small-time dealers and former soldiers, and goes home to a studio flat full of weapons. His long monologue is addressed to Pepi, his comrade from the front, whose cruelty in the war he recalls with admiration. Bloody memories of Pakrac break into his account of the boulevard, he follows the crime news obsessively, and the urge to kill someone grows in him.
