A contemporary Bulgarian woman, once the daughter of a senior State Security officer, sees her life overturned after 1989: she loses her home and everything she had, and her own daughter turns her out for the sake of material comfort. After weeks of wandering she finds shelter in the porch of a small village church at the edge of the country, on the Black Sea. Raised, like her whole generation, in total ignorance of the Christian faith, she now tells her listeners the Gospel story as she sees it: the young, wild Miriam who loves the desert, the widowed Joseph, Elisabeth, the angel Gabriel, Judas. Her own story and the lives of Jesus and his mother intertwine as she finds her way to faith.
