Riitta, the author's mother, was born in 1941 and died in the spring of 2022 after years of sickness; love was something she could hardly accept. Reading her diaries, her daughter reconstructs a sporty, lovely and gifted teenager of the 1950s whose future was overturned by a car crash at sixteen, and what came after: dances, mental collapse, motherhood in the 1960s, slimming pills laced with amphetamine, fear, rage and psychosis.
