Special police units take up positions around two flats in the Nebotičnik, Ljubljana's pre-war skyscraper, where an international group is guarding a charismatic prophet of Islamic origin whom the security services want removed at once. The sniper assigned to kill him is drawn in personally when Maja, the woman he loves, turns up among the targets, and when he finally faces the prophet he must choose between life and death. Fantastic elements soon break into the cool thriller: golden bullets said to be the only ones that can kill the prophet, an old man who sees other worlds with one eye, an ancient Turkish warrior carrying his own head. Behind them opens a historical fresco of religious wars between West and East in which the Carthusian monastery of Žiče plays a key part.
