Naranča Pejović writes soap operas for television, and since a crash her memory has been slipping away. Before it goes, she races off in her golden convertible to find Slavuj Mitrović, the great love of her youth, a poet, graffiti artist and activist whose faith in true art drove them apart when she chose business success. The trail leads through their old friend Helanka, a doctor who fled Bosnia and now runs her own eco-farm, and takes Naranča from a street in Split across the Dalmatian hinterland and war-torn Bosnia, back twenty years to a generation whose youth was marked by war. Mostly told in Naranča's own confessional voice and framed by letters, the novel plays with romance, soap opera, road novel and epistolary detective story, with a second part set in Detroit.
