Villastan looks like a fashionable suburb, but a dull bass thuds in the basement of one of its houses, and during a party there a brutal gang rape takes place. The four perpetrators, “the boys”, come from the town’s upper circles, as does the victim, their schoolmate. Two of their mothers, an opera singer who is Gusten’s mother and the head of a think tank who is Nathan’s, are old friends and do everything to limit the damage to the families’ reputations: turn the page often enough, they say, and it will be as if nothing happened. The boys’ childhood friend, the entrepreneur Cosmo Brant, wants the opposite and suddenly announces a film about the rape. A novel about wanting to forget and clinging to memories, and about families falling apart.
