The Other Half of You

Bani Adam was raised knowing exactly what his family wanted from him: a suitable bride and a household that would honour the House of Adam. Yet he was also the first of his Arab-Australian Muslim family from Western Sydney to enrol at university, where the English writers he admires seem to say he has no place, and he started to picture a different life. Years afterwards he sets it all down for his son, Kahlil: his love for Sahara, the decisions taken out of his hands and the ones he made anyway, the pain he inflicted, and the love for which he would turn his back on his tribe. Travelling up and down the Bankstown line, the novel sets modern romance against duty, custom and religion.
