When her father dies unexpectedly, the young narrator loses her balance. For a year she lives vaguely, attends university lectures at random, rides trains, suddenly visits places from her life so far, and travels to Prizren. Memories of an idyllic childhood in the Ottoman-shaped city, which she had to leave with her family at the age of ten, press into her Swiss present. But she cannot find the world of her childhood in Prizren, and she herself has changed. She looks for a place in her new country and her new language, while her lonely mother grows more and more isolated, and with every new German word the distance between them grows.
