The arrival of a mysterious family in town changes for ever the lives of Cristina and Constantin, two young people in love who share a passion for books. She marries Jim, the newcomers’ son; Constantin becomes a mercenary. Yet their youthful love follows them, and on their separate roads they are brought together again by Carlos, a poor orphan Cristina has sponsored from afar. Years later the orphan has become a famous writer, and Constantin is offered a great deal of money to kill him.
