Every Tuesday another instalment arrives from 'Ariadne', who signs her i's with a little flower and recounts passion and crime in a provincial town before her promised death. The disgruntled publishing man who reads her pages, a devotee of thrillers, falls under her spell. Borrowing tactics from le Carré, he recruits his drinking companions for a hopeless and absurd operation to locate her and stop her.
