Matija Dolenčec is a successful young author, but his new book is stuck, and his girlfriend Dina has had enough of the way he invents his past. Realising that his habit of stitching together borrowed and made-up memories is cutting him off from himself and from the people he loves, he decides to confront what he has buried. That means returning to the childhood he has wiped from memory, in a village in Međimurje before his family left for Zagreb in 1991: the death of his father, eight people in the village taking their own lives, two demons, a friend he lost, local myths and legends, and the lies, guilt and loneliness of a small boy largely left to cope alone.
