Pastor Pétur of Meyjarhóll writes in 1615, the year the earth has lost its central place in the cosmos, to set down what has overturned life in remote Brúnasandur for him and those he loves. Even there, English fishing boats, Spanish whalers, new books and the king's decrees arrive, and Pétur must choose between telling the truth and protecting the people he cares for.
