Caderno de um Ausente

Through the first year of Beatriz's life her father, already in his late fifties, keeps a notebook addressed to her. He records where the family comes from and what living has taught him, hoping to hand on gentleness more than certainties, and worries all the while about her mother, whose poor health needs as much attention as the infant. Gaps on the page mark his hesitations and the absence he expects to leave.
