A storm breaks over the high valleys between Camprodon and Prats de Molló, and a bolt of lightning kills Domènec, a farmer who wrote poems. From there the story is handed from voice to voice: a laughing old woman recalls four neighbours hanged long ago as witches, a mother, Sió, must climb to the farmhouse alone with her children, and even the black-capped mushrooms have their say. People, ghosts, clouds and animals speak in turn in a frontier landscape that remembers centuries of hardship, persecution and civil war.
