In nine stories, women of today come into view one after another: a bride from abroad married into a family in Taiwan who will not let go of her stepchild, a woman who fades to nothing once her cat is gone, a sex worker collecting money so that the minister she adores can build his church, a patient who walks naked in her sleep after a collapse. Restless, they keep walking out on their lives and turning back, and in their demands on the world they find tenderness and suffering alike.
