A young man starts work as an apprentice in the garage of Gajaš, an odd, gruff mechanic on the outskirts of town, and tells the story himself. Gajaš's workshop is the meeting point for a group of men who never quite manage to change their lives: a tavern singer, a melancholy philosophy teacher, a fleet manager, a dentist and Lepec, who runs the local night scene. Night after night they drink and talk about justice, politics, friendship and women, idolising a Croatian pop star as the ideal of beauty. Their rough talk hides a longing for something lasting. When the apprentice falls for Lepec's wife Bronja, love becomes dangerous for the whole circle.
