Three brothers, Joe, Miles and Harry, live on Tasmania's isolated southern coast in the shadow of their mother's early death. Their father fishes for a living and his temper shifts like the sea itself; he is a hard, resentful man with a terrible secret. Everyone loves Harry, the youngest, except his father. Miles tries to protect him but cannot be everywhere, so Harry, much of the time on his own, finds his happiness in little things: cuttlefish bones and shark egg cases washed up by the tide, a young kelpie, a warm drink, and a friendship he keeps hidden with a solitary man nearby. A brother's love and small treasures may not be enough to protect him.
