Tomás and Sara have moved to a remote plateau in the páramo to tame a seed brought from the jungle and make it grow in the cold, helped by Vladimir, whom Sara has known for years and who comes from a poor peasant family. Their days are set by the land until Tomás is hurt. With no way down to the village, they dress his injury with a salve improvised from borrachero and cat's claw, and from then on dreams leak into waking hours and the past grows hard to tell from the present. Tomás, the elder, wants a reason for everything; Sara lets the dreams pass through her. Injury and cure carry all three on a journey in which the mountain seems to dream through their bodies, loosely drawing on a Kogi myth.
