After Darkness

Early in the Second World War, Dr Ibaraki, who works at a Japanese hospital in Broome, is detained by the authorities and taken to the Loveday camp in outback South Australia. Interned among men split by their backgrounds and loyalties, he watches conflict grow, while the story also goes back to his arrival in Broome in 1938 and his marriage in Tokyo in 1934, and to a promise made in Japan that still haunts him.
