On the day she moves house, her boyfriend leaves her. Yuko takes to Kamata, a Tokyo district that is neither old downtown nor smart uptown, and gathers a loose constellation of people around her: a cousin who has tried to kill himself and now lodges with her, a yakuza with depression, a man she knows online who gropes women on trains, and a former classmate running for the city assembly, impotent and tied to his mother. Over one summer of meetings and partings, none of them gives in or sulks, and the story shrugs it all off as idle talk, after the King Crimson song.
