On the day of the neighbourhood sports meet, the mother laced the food meant for the whole village with pesticide, and now she is in prison. Her three children gather to sell the house, and as they talk they go back over the years, trying to understand why she did it and where things first went wrong. Between their exchanges each recalls the moment a dark hole opened inside them: one sister once pushed a stranger in a subway station who told her she had a pure soul, hit her with a bouquet, and never understood why. A family story, told in long, unbroken chains of sentences, about the holes everyone carries.
