Two colleagues, Hugo and Irena, once a couple, tour northern Bohemia at the request of an ambitious director, scouting bleak locations for a film about a Christian dissident family driven out of Prague by the secret police under socialism. Their route takes them through the Central Bohemian Uplands, Litvínov, Most, Libkovice, the Ore Mountains, Ústí nad Labem and Hrob, a region from which everyone has grabbed what they could. Instead of the expected 'lunar landscape' they find devastated churches and parishes, people worn down by the communist past and hungry for profit, unexpected beauty, old wrongs, old memories and old love, and their own relationship begins to change.
