"Everything is on me," says the boy. He is more than a boy, with the first twenty-five years of his life behind him, and he would like to provide for a family that has no mother, keep watch over his sister, bring up his brother and also take care of the one who lives in the pit. Told in an unsentimental yet fragile language, the book layers humour, sadness and the strangeness of ordinary things and days: a story about a kitchen, a family, and whoever lives in the pit.
