Contra Mim

During what he describes as a year of looking inward, the author returns to the boy he was and to the wonder of growing up with words as nourishment, companionship, a place to live, a way of waiting, even fragments of the divine. For certain authors the whole of life appears to point towards the page: every detail, however random or apparently trivial, already feeds a fascination with writing that is hard to tell apart from survival itself, with all its difficulty and delight.
