Can a prison set free those who enter it? Elisabetta teaches mathematics at the juvenile prison on Nisida, a small island off Naples. Every morning the barrier rises, her bag goes into a locked cupboard together with all her thoughts, and a suspended time begins, an island within the island where guilt can dissolve and disappear. Almarina, a Romanian girl, is a new pupil: she tries hard, but the sums don't add up. In that classroom you can see the horizon if you raise your eyes, but the door won't let you out. Between the teacher and the girl grows a bond that may offer both of them a way to begin again.
