In the 1950s, inland Västerbotten saw the last big wave of Christian revival, and Olof Helmersson was its star preacher, admired for his huge physical strength, his thundering sermons and his campaign for brushing teeth. When the fervour died down he disappeared. In 2006 he comes back, a wizened, bald old man, to a region that has changed past recognition, with a message that has changed just as much. He looks up the people he converted, some of them more than once. Alongside him appear two other passing visitors, King Karl XV and Jesus Christ, and a remarkable brand of schnapps that celebrates the forest and its pulp.
