Two fathers and two daughters. Martin, a German-American professor of German, lives with his daughter Sabrina in the United States; the Iraqi doctor Tarik and his daughter Muna live in Baghdad. Nothing connects the two families. Then Sabrina dies in the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001, and Muna is killed by a bomb in Baghdad in 2004. Told by the four voices as one long poem, between New York, where the towers fall, and Baghdad, where 'the air bleeds', with lines by Goethe, Hafez, Rückert, Adonis and many others weaving the two worlds together.
