After her mother dies, Marisia decides to move back from Vienna to Slovakia, where she works as a nurse. Her memories of her mother's dying alternate with her efforts to become part of her partner's family. Ordinary, banal days alternate with exceptional moments, and the everyday keeps winning. Marisia also meets a half-brother she never knew she had. The book is about family bonds, those one is born into and those newly formed, close or merely formal, and about how much, or how little, they matter.
