Saara's mother is killed by a block of ice that falls out of the sky, and the girl never sees her again; when her mother died, she says, their fairy tale was left unfinished. Her father breaks down with grief, wanting to be angry without knowing at whom. The two leave their old house for the manor of Saara's aunt Annu, who keeps them warm and helps them carry on, until she wins the lottery jackpot for the second time and falls asleep in the manor's tower for three weeks. Elsewhere a man is struck by lightning five times. Each of them looks for an explanation for their lives, in a book about time, grief, growing up and events that refuse to become the past.
