They are two from the start, the twins Alissa and Anton. In a two-room flat in post-Soviet Moscow, they cling to each other's curls when their parents go at each other. Later, in the West German provinces, they roam the corridors of a home for asylum seekers. Later still, Anton disappears without a trace. At some point a postcard arrives from Istanbul, with no text and no sender. Alissa sets out to look for her missing brother, but above all for a sense of belonging beyond fatherland, mother tongue or gender, one of a young generation of wanderers fighting for its identity in language, politics and sex.
