The war at Kurukshetra is over. Krishna stands among the dead, and Gandhari, mourning her hundred sons, blames him and lays a curse on him: his Yadava clan will destroy itself, Dvaraka will sink into the sea, and he will die alone. From there a devoted human narrator, speaking to a mostly silent Krishna, revisits his life: the childhood in Gokul, the love of the gopis in Vrindavan, the killing of Kansa, his rule in Dvaraka, the diplomacy that shaped the war, and the lessons he gave Arjuna. Along the way the narrator questions the morality of the war and Krishna's cunning, and reflects on devotion, human weakness and fate, portraying the god as a man who must face his own end.
