An unknown archipelago, the Kerkennah islands, becomes for a while the centre of the world in this novel set around 2050. A bus carrying eighteen characters brought together by chance heads down to the port, while a pleasure boat with a pretentious interior cruises the Mediterranean; the two are bound to meet in an accident, and the story runs like a countdown. Around them unfold a Kafkaesque trial broadcast across the earth, in which a dull man accused of crimes beyond him becomes the leader of an imaginary revolt, a prosecutor who drowns himself in music, a bridge and ogres. One of the voices is a male fly. Interludes of poetry punctuate the book.
