In Calcara, a Sicilian village where no one owns a bicycle, Cosimo Tumminia mends bicycles in an empty shop, shunned and hardly ever greeted, because he is said to bring bad luck. A gang chooses him to hide a kidnapped child in his house for a good fee, but Cosimo has reckoned without his loving, controlling mother.
