Viktor is a successful Zagreb lawyer whose life looks perfect, but although he came out of the Homeland War, the war never came out of him. Guilt, trauma and images of horror deny him any peace, and he sets out to find the mother of a young man he killed in the fighting, in search of her forgiveness. Following him stage by stage along this road, each step bringing up a deeper layer of trauma, the short novel asks whether a man can ever free himself from what he lived through. Written by a war volunteer, it was read as an anti-war book about the shame of surviving and the lost ideals of the veterans.
