Vera is suffocating in her marriage. After a brutal quarrel she moves out of her husband's home with their two small children and has to decide: try to mend the marriage, or start her life over and learn to breathe freely again. Told in the first person, in taut, unsettlingly honest and sharply ironic sentences, the novel traces how a couple in their thirties came together and fell into crisis, and the hard confrontations on the way out. It mixes traumatic experience with fairy tales, the real with the dreamlike, and grave subjects with humour, hiding nothing and taking no one's side.
