A thriller set a few years from now, ranging over the Arctic seabed, Mumbai, rural Finland and Greenland. Off the Indian coast, in the Gulf of Khambhat, the ruins of a drowned city lie under the water, and the Russian scientist Sergei and his colleague Amrita join Indian researchers trying to solve their riddle. Meanwhile a Finn, Kari Ahola, searches for some technical means of keeping polar ice from melting, and on the Greenland ice cap a research station, with a reclusive Filipino-born woman called Susan Chang, keeps watch. The two investigations turn out to be connected: warming could set the ice sheet sliding and unleash colossal waves, waves that might also explain old riddles, Atlantis among them.
