Grandmother Tatjana is dying in a family that fled from Border Karelia, and young Lasari, a boy who senses too much, starts having visions. When she is gone, his mother Nasti readies the vigil, and his father insists on every custom: a coffin built, neighbours summoned to sit with the dead. In 1950s Finland, the family is shamed for its tongue and its faith.
