Inspector Libor Lavabo, an eccentric investigator and gourmet, is handed a seemingly easy case: twelve female rhinos burnt to death. Gradually the hunt draws in a secret diary of Johann Wolfgang Goethe, a struggle for world domination between two conspiratorial societies, Neptunia and Plutonia, and a mad female warrant officer named Marhanová. A message hidden in a series of paintings of a black lake by Jan Preisler leads him into the heart of the extinct volcano Komorní hůrka. The title points both to the horns poachers saw off rhinos and to an age 'zeroed' of free imagination, in which masses dulled by consumption and mass media are easier to rule than a society of unique unicorns.
