An elderly author begins to doubt the speech he gave at his mother's funeral. Friends near death, standing by a river, want him to make sense of everything, love above all. His father's notebook, whose missing pages everyone believed destroyed, reappears decades later. And he cannot forget an older woman he met at fifteen on a bare pine floor at a neighbouring farm. Is it time to tell the truth?
