Sierpień

August in Warsaw is hot; heat hangs in the courtyards and storms pass over. A melancholy narrator drifts through corners, suburbs and gateways, suspended in time, unpicking the grid of streets as he spins his own memories and the city's. Under his gaze, raised from his books, church interiors, tram depots and dead shop windows come alive, and people speak: the great ones who get monographs, and the ordinary ones so grown into the city that they have become its history.
