Tony Pagoda is a nightclub crooner with a long past behind him: if Sinatra's voice was sent by God, his, he says, was sent by San Gennaro. His was the scene of a flourishing, ramshackle, happy Italy between Naples, Capri and the world, and everything came easily: talent, money, women. When life starts getting complicated, with his wife asking for a divorce and his band playing ever smaller squares, Tony decides it is time to disappear. At the end of a short Brazilian tour he stays on, first in Rio, then in Manaus, obsessed with cockroaches but crowned by a new freedom, until, years later, someone offers a fortune to bring him back to Italy.
