Toen kwam moeder met een mes

Ida's family has produced notable artists and public figures for generations, but her own relatives seem jinxed: their gifts are a size too small, their energy sours into fatigue, and quarrels escalate until a blade is drawn. Dominated by her mother in a home where trifles cause upheavals, Ida protects herself with superstitions and incantations, which gradually give way to a clearer view as she struggles to get free.
