Onaedo: The Blacksmith's Daughter

Two women four centuries apart are linked by history. Maxine, a modern American of mixed parentage, is trying to connect with her Nigerian father when she comes upon diaries kept by a slave in the sixteenth century. They tell of Onaedo, a girl from a small town in Igboland, who comes of age in a patriarchal society, finds love and an unloving husband, and is caught up in events set in motion by the Portuguese far away.
