Ida lands in Messina, her home town, called back by her mother, who wants to renovate the family flat and sell it. Surrounded again by the objects of her childhood, forced to choose what to keep and what to throw away, she has to face the trauma that marked her as a girl: twenty-three years ago her father disappeared. His body was never found, and there can be no funeral for a dead man who may not be dead. In the house between two seas, the place of return, Ida goes back over her own story to free herself from his absence, and from the ghost of a father who is no longer there.
