Damar Kambang

On Madura, where dignity and family honour count above everything, marriage customs decide the fate of Cebbhing, a fourteen-year-old girl from the village of Karang Penang. Trapped by decisions her parents make without her, she becomes like the field of a karapan bull race, where magical forces clash and collide. The novel asks what it really means to be Madurese, and shows the women of this salt-farming land who keep hope alight.
