While a hurricane batters Manhattan, a narrator who lives there as a foreigner waits out the storm in Peter's house in a rich part of town. Wind and rain sharpen his unease. Once, admiration and jealousy led him to steal Peter's Rolex, yet Peter never seemed to miss it, and the night leaves him asking what he really took.
